Production and processing
We started growing Tigernuts in Hungary in 2016. We grow our Tigernuts on more than ten hectares of rich Hungarian soil. The growing and harvesting of the Tigernut plant is done with expertise and coordination. We have long and short term goals; we would like to increase crop levels of the Tigernut plants and introduce our Tigernut products into global markets. Based on our experiences so far we can say that ‘Hungarian chufa’ will represent excellent quality on the world’s markets. The start of the production and processing of Tigernuts in Hungary may also launch a new and revolutionary agricultural trend where alternative nutritional food products will become more significant; alongside the current wide range of cereals.
Besides growing, the complete production process of Hungarian Tigernuts has been continuously developed as parts of an integrated model. Our company has had considerable research and development activity for several years. As a result of this activity we now have the capacity of producing several tons of Tigernut products daily. It means that we can do the peeling (reducing the redundant fibre, phytate and lectin etc. content) of the Tigernuts, the milling of the Tigernuts and the fractioning and the packaging of the Tigernut products; we can do the complete processing of Tigernuts. These new Tigernut products with 7-14 % fibre content are a novelty on global markets; and are only just beginning to appear. They are an alternative to the 25-33 % high fibre content products, which do not have very nutritional and enjoyment properties.
