About Tigernuts

THE CYPERUS ESCULENTUS

Cyperus Esculentus or Tigernuts plant belongs to the Poaceae (grasses) plant family. It grows Tigernut tubers in its roots below the soil. The size of the tubers ranges from 6 mm to 25 mm.

The tubers are used for several purposes like nutrition, medication and fishing baits. The Tigernut tubers can be eaten raw as unskinned Tigernuts or processed to make Tigernut products such as Tigernuts flour, Peeled tigernuts, Peeled tigernuts flour, Tigernuts crumbs and skinned Tigernuts.

The tubers of the plant are harvested in autumn. After harvest the Tigernuts processing and Tigernuts production takes place. The tubers are washed and selected according to their size.

The tuber can be skinned, dry or wet, with special technology. Then the Tigernut tubers are chopped, milled or grinded, classified, packaged and sold as our Tigernut products. The cultivation requires sandy soil, as well as appropriate climate conditions. This can lead to the crops producing 4 -5 tonnes of Tigernuts per hectare.
